About Cosmos…

Cosmos Coffee Café was started in October of 2004. The brainchild of Patrick Hoz, and Paul Johnson, who thought that introducing a hip urban café in the heart of La mesa would be an entrepreneurial challenge. In 2010, Patrick and Paul sold the café to Ari Bejar, a recent transplant from the San Francisco Bay area. Ari, a chef by trade, and his wife and son have embraced the idea of Cosmos and are infusing their own philosophies about recycling, eco friendliness, community activism, and using local ingredients in a “field to table” menu that will be featured in the café.

The name “Cosmos” is defined as a harmonious universe. It was chosen because we wanted to provide a place where people in the community could get together and relax. The walls in the café are an exhibition space for local artists artwork and feature music on Friday and Saturday.

The popularity of Cosmos Coffee Café can be attributed to the high standards that were established from the beginning. Cosmos purchases high-quality, fair trade certified coffees and sells them along with fresh, rich-brewed, Italian style espresso beverages, a variety of pastries, healthy soups, salads and sandwiches, and coffee-related accessories and clothing. From owners who gave back to their community, to the employees who became a part of the community, Cosmos has discovered the formula for a successful independent café.
